Explore the Weight Loss Struggle With an Isekai Parody Manga

Manga stories can get pretty heavy at times. From tragic romances to dark fantasies filled with death, there are a lot of works that can bring the feels.

But sometimes, manga creators love to kick back and create light-hearted (or weird) stories. I mean, there is a manga about a dude breastfeeding a baby alien in order to prevent the world’s destruction.

Did I mention the dude has to use a gender-bending device to feed the baby?

While this new manga series isn’t as comically lewd, it is a parody of the much-maligned isekai genre. Let’s meet Elf Can’t Lose Weight (Elf-san wa Yaserarenai.)

The manga is written and drawn by Synecdoche for Comic Gum’s web platform. It follows a super sexy elf warrior who is transported to our world…and she quickly gets addicted to fast-food and gains a lot of weight.

The story chronicles Erufuda’s weight loss journey with the aid of a message therapist named Naoe. Other over-weight (and exercise addicted) fantasy creatures show up as well.

Elf Can’t Lose Weight uses a silly premise (a French-fry addicted elf) to tell a relatable story for many people: losing weight is hard work. So you get your laughs and some real talk.

Maybe one day we’ll see Erufuda’s weight loss goals in anime form.

I grew up traveling around the world with my parents who practice and teach medicine. We spent 6 years in South Asia, including Japan, and my anime obsession began there.
