Studio Bones revealed that they are working on a new film trilogy for Eureka Seven, which will be titled Koukyoushihen Eureka Seven Hi-Evolution (Psalms of Planets Eureka Seven Hi-Evolution). The first film will premiere later this year, with the second and third films opening in 2018 and 2019.

The trilogy will center around protagonists Renton Thurston and Eureka and will follow The First Summer of Love event that was referenced in the anime’s first season. Even though the trilogy will follow the story of Renton and Eureka, Bone said that the project is not a remake or a remix of the previous seasons. The movies will feature redone animation, re-recorded dialogue, new scenes, and an original ending.
Original staff members Tomoki Kyoda (director), Dai Sato (screenplay writer), and Kenichi Yoshida (character designer) are returning for the trilogy. However, Bones did not confirm if the original cast members will reprise their roles.
Eureka Seven is an original mecha-romance series created by Bones. The first season debuted in 2005 and ran for 50 episodes. Season 1 centered on Renton, a boy who lives a boring life in the village of Bellforest but has his life interrupted by Eureka after she crashes her mecha into his him. A sequel series titled Eureka Seven AO, which ran for 24 episodes in 2012, was also produced. Finally, Kinema Citrus co-produced an alternate universe movie titled Pocketful of Rainbows.
