Gosho Aoyama’s Detective Conan manga is celebrating its 1,000th chapter! The mystery series has been serialized in Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday since January 19, 1994.
The double-issue of Weekly Shonen Sunday ran with a Detective Conan cover and included color pages. Detective Conan has over 200 million copies in print worldwide.
Aoyama’s series follows Conan Edogawa, the alias of detective Shinichi Kudo. During an investigation, Kudo was attacked by members of the Black Organization and was de-aged due to poison. To keep his cover, the newly named Edogawa moves in with his childhood friend Ran Mori and her father Detective Kogoro. Together, they help the police solve difficult cases and try to dig deeper into the Black Organization.
Detective Conan impressive manga ran is rivaled by its anime adaptation. TMS Entertainment has produced 869 anime episodes in an ongoing adaptation. The anime began airing on January 8, 1996.
21 movies, 27 OVAs, 1 live-action TV drama, 4 live-action specials, and two crossover movie with Lupin III have also been produced.
