This is Mari Okada
If you’ve been watching anime since 2001, odds are she has made you cry at some point. Here are some of Okada’s most famous works…
Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day
The Anthem of the Heart
Hanasaku Iroha – Blossoms for Tomorrow
Nagi no Asukara: A Lull in the Sea
Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans
Okada has been a screenwriter for her entire career…until now. It’s been announced that P.A. Works and Showgate are producing an original anime movie with Okada making her directorial debut!
Sayonara no Asa ni Yakusoku no Hana o Kazarou (Let’s Decorate the Promised Flowers in the Farewell Morning) is going to be a movie that, according to Okada, “will depict a human drama like everyone has experienced at some point that gradually pierces the heart.”
In an interview with Oricon News, Okada said she requested to direct the movie after a conversation with P.A. Works CEO Kenji Horikawa, who wanted to see a work where Okada gave “her full 100%.” She has worked with P.A. Works on True Tears, CANAAN, Hanasaku Iroha – Blossoms for Tomorrow, and Nagi no Asukara: A Lull in the Sea, which makes it fitting that her directorial debut will be with the studio.
Sayonara no Asa ni Yakusoku no Hana o Kazarou will debut in Japan on February 24, 2018.
