Abusive Chat A.I. is Honored With an Anime Award

Every year, tech companies make advances in Artificial Intelligence, like programs that can “dream” or create Rembrandt inspired paintings. And there is Motoko…

Pixiv ran a beta version of Project SAMANTHA, which is an A.I. that allows visitors to “chat” with an anime or manga character. They chose Motoko, the main character from Batou Shoujo, to be the first character that A.I. would simulate. If you haven’t read the manga, Motoko is a verbally abusive character who loves to tease, belittle, and cuss people out.

The project was a resounding success, as Motoko participated in nearly 7.5 million abusive conversations with Pixiv members between August 4 to 14. In fact, the A.I. was awarded the first ever Ani Monozukuri Awards, which celebrates the creativity surrounding anime.

Never doubt the masochistic nature of otaku and their abusive overlords.
