6 Anime Masamune-Kun’s Revenge Fans Should Watch

Masamune-kun’s Revenge is one of the more popular shows of the Winter 2017 season. While you wait in agony for new episodes to come out, and you refuse to read the manga, you could check out these similar series!

What’s it about: Kyouko puts her life on hold so she can help her crush Shoutarou become a popular idol. Believing that they will end up in a relationship, the naive Kyouko is devastated to learn the Shoutarou was only using her. Heartbroken, Kyouko vows to get revenge by entering the entertainment industry.

Watch if: You enjoy the rom-com setup of being motivated by revenge. Skip Beat! is essentially the shoujo version of Masamune-kun’s Revenge, but with idols.

What’s it about: Eita spends his life studying so he can get a scholarship to med school. Due to his parents’ divorce, Eita is jaded about when it comes to romance. Masuzu is a popular transfer student who gets asked out everyday. To stop the advances, she blackmails Eita into becoming her fake boyfriend.

Watch if: You like the dramatic elements and terrible character personalities of Masamune-kun’s Revenge.

3. OreGairu

What’s it about: Hachiman has a jaded look on life due to a dramatic rejection. After writing an essay mocking social relationships, Hachiman is forced to join the Volunteer Service Club, which is a club that helps students in achieving their goals.

Watch if: You enjoy a cynical take on high school life, minus the revenge slant.

4. Amagi Brilliant Park

What’s it about: Kanie Seiya is a smart and narcissistic high schooler who is tricked by the beautiful Sento Isuzu into going on a recruitment tour at Amagi Brilliant Park. Learning that the theme park is in danger of closing, Kanie takes on the challenge to meet the attendence quota within three months.

Watch if: Kanie shares Masamune’s narcissistic personality, minus the need for breaking a girl’s heart.

5. Maid Sama!

What’s it about: Seika High was once an all-boys school infamous for its obnoxious students, but has recently became co-ed. Misaki becomes the first female student council president and works hard to the make the school a better place for the other girls that attend.

Despit her reputation as a man hater, Misaki works a secret part-time job at a maid café to help support her family. Takumi, a popular boy at school, discovers Misaki’s secret and uses it as an opportunity to get closer to her.

Watch if: You enjoy Masamune and Aki’s character dynamic. Both sets of main characters interact in very similar ways.

6. Scum’s Wish

What’s it about: Mugi and Hanabi seem to be the perfect couple, and are the envy of the entire school. However, they are only in a relationship to hide a secret from their classmates…and it’s that they are in love with someone else.

Watch if: You enjoy the darker take on the rom-com genre and the terrible characters found in Masamune-kun’s Revenge, but you want to take out the comedy aspects.
